A Play within A Play

The hundred scandals rocking our nation's capital remind me of the Shakespearean play within a play.  While we the people sit out here trying to survive as off cast, out cast, unfairly cast in the swelling role of the discarded poor that is so aptly represent by Falstaff, Henry V’s rejected comrade, quite another performance goes on in our midst.  One that has nothing to do with us and never has had.
The pseudo aristocrats and self promoting parasites in the political class are play to the scribbling, squawking sob-sisters in the media class.  Thus, does Darrell Issa and his flying monkeys, on both sides of the isle, play to the platoon of look-alike drones that populate the intellectual tenement that is the Fourth Estate.  Accordingly, the drones play back with quasi reporting, endless speculation, sorting, shifting and subverting the facts to their own partisan bias with, as Raymond Chandler said, “all the charm of a cop beating up a drunk.”

For every Rachel Maddow and Ed Shultz, MSNBC, or Greta Van Susteren and Mike Wallace – believe it or not Fox News – or Ezra Klein and David Frum, print media, there are a hundred Hannitys and a thousand gorgeous people with fair and balanced lip gloss or kinda-sorta-milk-and-toast Liberal leanings.  Then there are the Limbaughs and the Coulters who I suspect would cross-dress, sing the Russian National Anthem on the steps of the Capital, while avowing their commitment to atheism, the Muslim Brotherhood and sugar free drinks if it earned them $1,000,000 more a year without a single penny on their income tax.  Leave us not forget that paragon of paranoia, that poster child for untreated mental illness, Mr. Alex Jones.  He seemingly believes that President Obama is an alien from Jupiter who came to earth and became a Muslim, joined the Socialist Party and is staging mass shootings and tornados for some dastardly reason known only to him, the Socialists, the Muslims and the Intergalactic Army of Occupation.  Goddess help us all, there are people who actual agree with this cretin.
It is a fact that many people’s relationship with these bloody politicians and faux journalists, two camps of twits and tarnished heroes, can be best summed up by paraphrasing an old canard.  We the unwilling, lead by the unknowing, are accepting the impossible from the despicable.  We have been tolerating so much for so long and so blindly, that we are now absolutely acquiescing to almost anything.

Anyone who knows me well or even a little knows that I am not a glass half-full kind of dame.  I am a proud and persistent pessimist, a committed and consistent doubter.  I believe little of what I see and none of what I hear until I have thought it all out in my rose garden.  People who have had the honor of knowing the rose long and tending her well can hear her speak.  Not in words, of course, but in a gentle, fragrant breeze of knowing that is ancient and deep.  She gently pushes the thoughts not in her direction but in the direction of the union between mind, soul and heart.  The rose has no prefabricated or shallow opinions, those things are for lesser beings that “strut and fret their hour upon the stage,” desperately grasping their assorted crutches and chains for fear of realizing that they are not the center of the living universe.  She has wisdom and a reason born of centuries of evolution from prehistoric times to now.
Once I have thought thing through with my “ladies,” I know well my own mind and generally find it is utterly opposed to what political hacks or media Muppets have asserted is the one and only truth of the matter.  It is a habit you know, thinking – one that is discouraged by our “betters” full of themselves and usually of crap.

I am thoroughly convinced that, as I have said before and will say again, the pimps have taken over the world; corporations are king.  Right is wrong and wrong is right.  Night is day and day is night.  Wall Street bloodsuckers are our benefactors because Jesus saves, but Cash is God.  Mediocrity is the new gold standard and excellence the evil of the land.  Smart is sacrilege and stupid the ultimate act of religious devotion.  It is all fucked up, Alice.  We are on the other side of the looking glass and lead to it by our willful obsession with the cult of celebrity, experts and the many other harbingers of the deceit of the day.
It is a dangerous world we live in not because it is violent, it is that, but because it is thoughtless.  It is an ugly world we live in, not because it is cruel, it is that, but because it is careless.  It is an uneasy peace that we maintain between our rights and our responsibilities.  It is a perilous course we walk when we accept money as our supreme good and refuse to understand our own fallibility.  We have paid a heavy price for admission to these hideous plays with our coin, our patronage, our unquestioning allegiances, blind following and in many cases abject refusal to accept the inevitability of change.  I fear, in my pessimism and insistence upon free thinking, that not even the Bard could stop our looming tragedies from ending catastrophically.

Liars and Those Who Tolerate Them

I can not listen to the network or cable news any longer.  I can't listen to any of it save Maddow. The lying Republicans, chiselers like Issa waxing moral, and the mealy mouthed Democrats sicken me in equal measure.

It is the same thing every day. On one side we have the distortions of the Republicans, supported without question by the media for the most part. The IRS targeted Tea Party Groups, for instance. On the other, we have the cowardice of the Democrats. No one is asking for the results of those "targeted" investigations? Were these groups engaged in tax evasion or fraud, and is that why they were "targeted"? From the early part to well into the middle of the last century if your name ended in an "i" or an "o" and you belonged to "la famiglia" you were routinely "targeted" by the IRS for investigation - very often with good reason. I don't say this lightly. These were my people. Nobody called a hearing to investigate the investigations. I say to the Democrats, you are so busy cutting yourself off at the knees to earn the moral high ground, you no longer have a leg to stand on. GROW A SET!!!
For the record, don't get me wrong. I am not comparing the Tea Party to the Mafia. The Mafia is smarter, more subtle and better dressed. Most importantly they are not a cult. They are a highly organized and meticulous criminal business - one this society earned by the way. In my estimation, the Tea Party is a cult and has a cult like grip on our political institutions, one that no one in Washington or any other damn place seems to recognize.

Not so long ago I had some ass tell me that the Mafia is dead. I said, "Don't kid yourself white boy, all that exists does not go screaming in the streets."

Voices from the Past

Four people I admire who could not even imagine the hideous deterioration of our societal and political institutions, summed up perfectly, as if by clairvoyance, the bastardizations and fouling of government by legalized corruption and self serving partisan destruction that apparently sets the standard of integrity, political discourse and policy making in this country.

The political and commerc
ial morals of the United States are not merely food for laughter, they are an entire banquet. .. Mark Twain

I sent my flowers across the hall to Mrs. Nixon but her husband remembered what a Democrat I am and sent them back. .. Bette Davis

Egotism - usually just a case of mistaken nonentity. .. Barbara Stanwyck

Television is just one more facet of that considerable segment of our society that never had any standard but the soft buck. .. Raymond Chandler

A Call to Battle

Now is the time for all good men and women to get off their butts and start kicking ass.  Benghazi, Benghazi, Benghazi – never mind that the much touted emails were misrepresented and apparently altered by the Republicans, or that the same Rightwing stooges holding hearings striped millions from State’s budget just before the attack.  AP phone records, AP phone records, AP phone records, – never mind that Darrell Issa, a modern day High Inquisitor using partisan politics as the church once used religion, voted against The Free Flow of Information Act of 2007 that would have protected the AP from Justice subpoenas. The law had a provision that expressly forbid subpoenaing journalists phone records from “communication service providers” even as it protected the journalists.  Notwithstanding its passage in the House it was defeated by – you guessed it – filibuster.  Therefore, it can be argued that DOJ was following the letter and the spirit of existing legal thought.  IRS, IRS, IRS – never mind that the Bush Administration engaged the IRS, the CIA, the Secret Service and the FBI to investigate some Liberal Churches and organizations for daring to speak against the War in Iraq.

Through all this tommyrot and tripe our president stands before the microphone cool and impeccable, uttering only tempered indignation.  All righty Mr. President, it is time to pull up your Humphrey Bogart jockstrap and start knocking some god-damned heads together.  Enough of this retreating into your vast reserve and aloofness; enough of the Axelrod/Plouffe milk and toast strategy of rising above it all – you are in it now up to your gorgeous eyes.  The only way out is to slug your way out.  Start landing some punches – a left, a right and a solid uppercut.  Don’t want to be called an angry black man?  How would you like to go down in the history books as the most scandal ridden president since Grant?  Call the game on these lying, hypocritical, political vampires because they will never stop.

Impeachment my Aunt Rosie’s girdle, Inhofe style boneheaded blowhards don’t want to deal with old Joe Bidden.  He is a real fighting Liberal who takes no prisoners.  What the mutts in the media call gaffs are really just a committed man speaking his mind – media be damned as well they should.  Remember he learned his craft from politicians modeled on the likes of Lyndon Baines Johnson who would have kicked the wharf rats currently infesting the Capital down the Mall and straight into the Potomac without disturbing the symmetry of his tie.

What in the Bloody Hell

If you have any doubt in your mind about what the Republican Right thinks of women read the following article.  Wisconsin Congressman Paul Ryan has proposed a bill that would make it possible for a rapist to sue his victim to prevent her aborting a child conceived during the rape.  This is the most egregious example of religious and extremist bulling yet on record.  I have seen nothing like it in over 50 years of following politics in this country.  After the most brutal and devastating violation a woman can endure this monster, this political parasite,  this duplicitous, self promoting insect would have her body under the control not only of the government, but of her assailant.  Any woman who votes for this despicable hump deserves what she gets.  I suppose this is his idea of prolife - everybody's life but the mothers.

Even though this occurred in January, this needs to stick to him.  This needs to be a campaign issue for him and anyone who votes or voted for it.  This needs to be publicized.  Please share this information in any way that you can.  The only way to stop this plague of misogyny and cruelty is to kick the Ryans of the world right square in the ass at the ballot box.

Some People Matter and Some People Don't

Watching the news gives me the distinct impression that some people matter and some people don't.  Senators and business people looking to get home or making money matter; old people looking for one good meal a day don't.  Trust fund babies looking for tax breaks matter; poor kids looking forward to Head Start don’t.  Banks matter; the people they screw don’t.  Gun owners matter; dead children don’t.  From one end of Pennsylvania Avenue to the other lip service is paid, righteous objection is chronicled, slogans are offered in lieu of progress and condolences are extended.  Yet, some people matter and some people don’t.

Through it all the God of the Christians is venerated, our freedom extolled, our equality asserted and our way of life held up to the world as a model of all things good and decent.  Yet, some people matter and some people don’t.  Who the hell do our leaders think they are to proceed as if we don’t notice?  Who the hell do the members of the Fourth Estate think they are to profess to be the great harvester of truth, separating wheat from shaft and leaving the wheat on the floor?  Who the hell are we to tolerate it all?
