Guns and Greed

We are controlled by the minority.  The loud, ignorant easily lead minority that is kept in an uproar by seriously cynical and corrupt people in government who in turn are funded by predators willing to sell anything to anyone for any reason if it makes one dollars worth of profit.  We did not invent the idea that the squeaky wheel gets the oil, but we certainly perfect it.  There is no justice or sanity in this agenda.  To look for it is pointless.

We can no longer give the greatest credence to the most strident and vicious voice.  We can no longer allow the delusional lead by the duplicitous to make paranoia policy and to treat the slaughter of the innocent as collateral damage and the cost of freedom.  We are not talking about a well regulated militia.  We are talking about a mindless horde.  We are not talking about the 2nd Amendment.  We are talking about vulture capitalism and criminal bribery made manifest through the cruel hysteria of mob psychology.

Symbols and Gestures

We are all delighted that Pope Frances is kissing the feet of prisoners.  However, before we make too many concrete assumptions about his papacy based upon symbolic gestures may we know a little more about how he intends to handle the sexual abuse scandals, the position of women in the church and the rights of women and gay people in general with regard to parts of their life that are none of his damn business.

The children on MSNBC’s “The Cycle” are opining effusively about the magnanimity of his gesture.  They are near breathless at the sight of his kissing the feet of “even” women.  That speaks for itself.  Let us see if he can point his own feet toward the 21st Century before the media canonizes him.

A Pox on Them All

I just saw the insufferable David Axelrod on MSNBC spewing the old canard, “Don’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good.”  We heard this horse crap repeatedly during the health care debate while the insurance companies were invited to the table first, the Public Option went the way of Vaudeville and the loony Right was allowed to carry the message with words like Socialism, Communism and death panels.
Axelrod is really saying, “Sit down and shut up your betters have things under control.”  Well they don’t and they never have.  This time he is talking about sensible gun regulation.  He is telling us not to get too attached to the assault weapons ban or the ban on large ammunition clips.  We have to be willing to settle for what we can get, because in the eyes of our “leaders” if it is a choice between what they want and what we want there is no choice.  Whether it is re-election or a legacy they come first and the people who help them buy their next election or place in history are far more important than we.
If you doubt this consider the discrepancy between what the American people want in terms of gun regulations as expressed repeatedly in every poll and what the whores in the House and Senate are willing to give us.  If you doubt this I suggest that you consider Obama’s recent decision with regard to protecting Monsanto.  In that case it was, “Don’t let the good be the enemy of the cash.”  A pox on all of them.

How Much Will it Cost Me?

Our national conscience seems to be suffering from some kind of acute viral outbreak resulting in moral paralysis.  To wit:  when told that a child is hungry some people ask, “How much will it cost me?” When told that someone is dying because they can’t afford medical care these same people ask, “How much will it cost me?”  Accordingly, when told that a grave injustice needs righting such people ask, “How much will it cost me?”

Me, me, me - the Gregorian chant of the infant soul.  To such people I say, the realm of public policy is not a nursery.  The cost of all of the above will be as nothing to the cost of your Karma – what Christians call Divine Judgment.

The Lunacy of it All

If you can’t beat them; cheat them.  If you have no platform, find a scapegoat.  If your party is in flames, lite more matches.  Welcome to CPAC – the coldblooded, the paranoid, the antiquated, the Conservatives.

A New Pope; Perhaps a New Vision

Jorge Mario Bergoglio of Argentina is the new pope.  He has taken the name Frances.  It is my understanding that he is the first to take that name.  One would believe that this may be for St. Francis of Assisi - who took a vow of humble poverty and meant it.  The new pope is committed to the poor and to social justice.  If this is so, may the Goddess bless him.
Oh yes, bend over Ryan; Rome is driving.  Is it Rand or is it Christ, that is the question?
