Our national conscience seems to be suffering from some kind
of acute viral outbreak resulting in moral paralysis. To wit:
when told that a child is hungry some people ask, “How much will it
cost me?” When told that someone is dying because they can’t afford medical
care these same people ask, “How much will it cost me?” Accordingly, when told that a grave injustice
needs righting such people ask, “How much will it cost me?”
Me, me, me - the Gregorian chant of the infant soul. To such people I say, the realm of public
policy is not a nursery. The cost of all
of the above will be as nothing to the cost of your Karma – what Christians
call Divine Judgment.
